Simona Piattoni (BA/MA Economics, PhD Political Science) is professor of Political Science at the University of Trento, where she teaches Comparative Politics, Local Government, European Politics, and Democracy in Europe. She was previously associate professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Tromsø (Norway) (1994-2000) and Professor of European Integration at the University of Innsbruck (2010-2011). She has been chair of the Executive Committee of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) (2012-2015) and is currently president of the Società Italiana di Scienza Politica (SISP) (2015-2018). She has written on clientelism, Italy in the EU, cohesion policy, multilevel governance and European democracy. Her latest books are The Theory of Multi-Level Governance. Conceptual, Empirical, and Normative Challenges, Oxford University Press (2010) and Shaping Policy from Below: The Committee of the Regions and European Democracy (with Justus Schönlau), Edward Elgar (2015).
